Free Diaper Cake Recipe

Such a wonderful, free diaper cake recipe for you to follow. Diana Albers, of Highland, MI, shares how she put together a girl teddy bear diaper cake:
"I made this teddy bear diaper cake for my daughter's baby shower. I rolled about 96 size 1 and 2 diapers, attached as if it were a 3 layer cake, each layer a little larger. All were secured with elastic cording and ribbons.

I folded blankets and sleepers and bibs and also burp clothes I had made special with the baby's name on it with a matching bib.

I also had little teddy bear soaps made and wrapped in plastic bags and tied with matching ribbon.

I added many stuffed bears and toys. This whole cake was secured with a wooden dowel and the top teddy was tied to it.

I also topped the top teddy with a baby hat and pacifier around its neck.

I also purchased a baby powder scented waxed bear to match the whole theme and boxed and wrapped and set it next to the diaper cake.

This was a fun project and went over so well, it ended up being the center piece for the shower."

Princess Diaper Cake Idea

A fairy princess diaper cake any little girl would love! Tammy Hertay (Kelowna, BC, Canada), will tell you how she made this adorable presentation.

Someone asked me to make her a special diaper cake. It was her friend's first child (friend was a male friend already knowing the new bundle of joy soon to be entering his world would be his "LITTLE PRINCESS") Once I heard that word "PRINCESS" I knew exactly where to go with this diaper cake. (darn light bulbs) So off I go to buy bulk diapers, rolled like a mad woman, and sketched out my plan on paper that night.

Next day, made the two tiers binding each with ribbon. I then cut out card board circles one to secure the top, one in the middle of the two tiers, and two for the base...(why two = it gives me a lip to create a artist frame that gives the cake just a little special touch) I feed two pieces of string (longer than the cake) through the tiers over the top and back down to the bottom where I secure it. This is trying but there is a SECRET. Prior to threading the string through the cardboard and diapers, light a candle and wax the ends of the string. Straighten and allow it to dry... it will harden and will be easy to thread through. (wink wink)

Any whoo, I went on a "PINK" shopping spree and I mean PINK. WOW talk about a lot of things that are PINK! The only thing is I found a pink teddy bear but wasn't what I had in mind (re-word... wasn't what I had drawn in my head, so I knew I had to do a few changes to it) Next was to see what was available at the dollar store. At the dollar store I found a tiara, wand, and a nylon butterfly (why a butterfly just wait you will see)

TIME TO CREATE! YEAH!

I started with covering the bottom tier with the PINK plush blanket. Everyone knows that "PRINCESSES or in my plans "FAIRY PRINCESSES" wear tiaras therefore I attached a foamie tiara I found at the local craft store, attached it to the base (using the lip of the two circle to glue it on with a hot glue gun) Now it looked like the fairy princess diaper cake was wearing a tiara.

(LAUGHING) now it was to do some surgery. I took the butterfly I bought at the dollar store and "dissected" the wings from the body of the butterfly. Poor butterfly. The teddy bear has a battery pack in the back. I exposed enough of it that I was able to apply a piece of Velcro to the battery pack and Velcro between the two butterfly wings and attached them together... Then I took a little more Velcro, attached it to the back of the tiara (front and back) and attached it to the top of the head of the teddy near... VOILA "Fairy Princess teddy bear" YES in PINK TOO) I took string and attached it to the top of the cake stringing in between the string used for securing the diapers together.

With three wash cloths (2 pink, 1 white) I rolled the white one first (folded 4x), secured it with elastics, and rolled it within the two pink folded wash cloths (folded 4x) while holding it I took an infant spoon, held it behind the washcloths and secured it with approx 4 - 6 small elastics. then I used PINK transparent paper wrap it securing it with ribbon... lollypop.

I used "PRINCESS" ribbon around the second tier and a different type of "princess" ribbon to secure items to the previous tier using glue gun glue between the two ribbons to secure.

Need: PINK scratch mitts, PINK booties, Pink burp pad (teddy bear sitting on it) , folded hooded towel (Pink), Pink Onesie supporting the teddy bear (it's heavy with the tiara, and wings on it) I found fairy princess bib, and princess socks. Look very closely... I even put princess hair elastics on the bears ears. (attention to detail I say)

I am all for giving mom-to-be something too baby can't get all the attention. So I made up a chocolate wrapper to cover a chocolate bar. (thank God for computers) On the cover I made sure to put a "fairy princess on it" on the back.

Teddy Bear Diaper Cake

Instructions to make a teddy bear diaper cake, by Linda Wadsworth of Worthing, Sussex, UK.

For my base i used a round piece of polystyrene, I placed a large bottle of baby talcum powder in the middle. I rolled each diaper securing with an elastic band, placing on the base around the talc to form the bottom layer. I then put a large elastic band around the whole layer to secure.Thank you Linda, what an incredible source of inspiration! This diaper cake could easily be modified to match any baby shower theme, by using any stuffed animal of your choice.

Diaper Cake Directions

Free diaper cake directions provided by Whitny Crutcher (Tyler, TX, USA), for her adorable "Turquoise And Chocolate Delight."

"I first purchased a cake plate from Hobby Lobby. They are pre-made and covered in silver paper. Next I purchased Parents Choice New Born diapers, 4ft of turquoise ribbon, and chocolate brown rick-rack.

1. I rolled each diaper (roughly 50 count) and secured them with a clear small rubber band.

2. Next, I decided the sizes for the layers, and secured them with the ribbon, wrapping it all the way around tying the turquoise in the front with cute little bows, and securing the chocolate brown in the back with hot glue.

3. Once all the layers were completed I stacked them biggest to smallest using double stick tape to secure them in place.

4. For decoration I purchased a Burt's Bees baby set, and travel size Johnson & Johnson baby necessities. I also used pacifiers and secured a bottle in back. I used curling ribbon to add a special touch to the small bubbles and placed an adorable rubber ducky on top.

5. To take it to the next level of cuteness I purchased foam sticky letters to the cake stand spelling the sweet baby's name. I don't have pictures of the cake being built, but I think it turned out really well for my 1st cake!"

1) Wrap tiers: bottom with frog hooded towel (make it so that the frogs are facing outwards), top tier with the receiving blanket.

2) 12" Frog. Tie each leg down to the top cardboard separately.

3) Tuck burp pad under frog topper, tuck in sides of burp pad between receiving blanket and diapers.

4) Wrap the 1 ½" green ribbon around the top tier.

5) 5" Frog. Sit it in the center - beneath the 12" on the ledge of the two tiers. Take 2-side tape and tape both the bottom of the frog and the back of the frog. If frog doesn't stay use a straight pin behind the frog.

6) Use two white cloths pins (found at craft store) clip both sock rattles on the top tier place them so that they don't touch the 5".

7) Using hooded towel as a visual aid, take one bootie and a cloths pin and clip it above the corner of the hooded towel… do the same to the opposite side with the other bootie.

8) 5/8" ribbon. Wrap around Kandoo bottle once you meet the beginning leave an extra 1cm. Dab Hot glue and join the ends together. (Do this with all the bottles)

9) Take one refill bottle, first eye to see if both ribbons ~ 1 ½" and 5/8" meet when you place the bottle on the ledge of the two tiers. (adjust ) Make a small line of hot glue and connect the two ribbons together (Hold till it dries a little). You will do this with all bottles.

10) Take two green curling ribbons. Curl. Then take a small elastic put curled ribbon through both ends. Put elastic around the head of the Kandoo lid. (do this with all kandoo lids)

11) Fold and roll onesie. Make sure that the Frog symbol is showing in front. Secure with sm. Elastic on both sides. Add two different colors green curling ribbon to both sides and curl. Slide a piece of string through the two ribbons behind the onesie. Pull up a diaper in the middle of tier (enough so that you can put your fingers in), pull end of string through the elastic on the diaper and tie the string. Make sure to put the diaper back into place. The onesie will fall into place.

12) Take bobble head frog. Apply 2 sided tape to the bottom and sit it on the ledge of the tiers in the middle back of the cake.

13) (LILLY PAD) Take small dowel. Cut into 7". Sand both sides of dowel till smooth. Take one lilly pad, apply hot glue to the top of the dowel, press it to the back-center of the lilly pad, and hold it until dry. (make one more) Take one crouching frog. Use two sided tape and tape the bottom of the frog. Press the frog onto the center on the lilly pad. (make one more) Take the dark green wash cloth start at the 4" spot on the dowel and wrap the towel around till you get to the bottom of the lilly pad. Take several sm. Elastics, randomly secure the towel to the dowel (remember lilly pad markings are not perfect that's why you randomly place the elastics) Stick lilly pads on both sides of the cake facing forward.

14) LOLLY POP. Cut clear cellophane approx 12" x 8" (better to have more then less), have elastic near by and green curling ribbon. Take white wash cloth fold it into four, do the same with the light green wash cloth. Roll not to tight yet not too loose the white wash cloth. Apply two sm. Elastics on the outside of the white wash cloths to hold it into place. (you will notice that there is a neat side and a not so neat side) place the rolled wash cloth at the end of the light green wash cloth (good side joining the good side of the green wash cloth) Roll the two together. (Hold) Take spoon place it on the back of not-so-neat side. Using 4 elastics cross elastics around the wash cloth and over the back of the spoon till the spoon is secured. Pick up cellophane, place wash cloth/spoon in middle of cellophane, gather rest of cellophane at the bottom of the wash cloth, secure with elastic, and decorate with curling ribbon. Place in front area to the right.

15) RUBBER FROGS. Take two and put the in the booties looking out. Rest put two sided tape on and place them randomly on the cake.

16) You will notice a hole just above the 5" frogs head. Either you can place a rubber frog there or take a foam sheet and write out something like I did. (People are immediately drawn to a hole so fill them if you can)
