Canadian Diaper Cake Idea

Canadian Diaper Cake Idea
This creative and unique Canadian diaper cake idea is Tammy H's, way of sharing her patriotism. She is proudly from Kelowna, BC, Canada.
Instructions : It all started off hearing from a friend who just moved from the UK to Canada about how excited she was to have her first "Canadian" baby. (I guess living being a Canadian we take it for granted at times.) I drew out several sketches when FINALLY one hit me... why not make one that focused strictly on everything "Canadain." I live in a small town therefore my so-called- car rally scavenger hunt for baby clothing that had "Canada" was on. I went through two towns 'til I was satisfied with what I had found (not an easy thing to find clothes for infants that say CANADA on them)

I rolled diapers like a MAD woman. Time to create... I made the two tier, stood back and looked at it for several minutes, picturing what I want in my head, need that here, want that there. I always start with the covering the tiers, bottom tier with a plush blanket (hey it is Canada it's cold), and the second tier with a hooded towel.

Again stood back and looked at it. Measured the base. This is when I drew stencils of some 1", 3", 4" and 4.5" maple leaves. From there cut out about 60 1", 3 3", 2 4", and 2 black 4.5". As well as 3 CANADA all out of foamie. Well I wrote off four days just doing this (they need to be perfect).

Next day I spent 2 hours hot gluing one-by-one of the 1" red maple leafs side-by-side around the base. (at this point I think I must have sang "Oh Canada" about 59 times while gluing each one. next was to hot glue on the "CANADA" and the 3" maple leafs between each word on top of the 1" maple leafs (56) Everything lined up perfectly (measure 17 times, glue once... just like dad always said)

I lucked out in finding "maple leaf" 1/2" ribbon. Also I took two of the neck tie key holders, cut off the key rings leaving me with the "Canadain ribbon" imagination I must say. Used the ribbon around the second tier and the ribbon from the neck tie key holders to attach items to the ribbon. With patience, one by one I cut and attached each of the Baby lotions to the ribbon that was wrapped around the second tier.

I used straight pins to secure items to the lower level (cap, bib, scratch mitts, body suit, and socks) As well I took the 2 4" red maple leafs glued them to the 4.5" black maple leafs for contrast. attached them with push pins. With sticky foamie letters attached "I am from" making sure it blended in with CANADA... this way it would read "I am from CANADA"

I was going to put on our nations animal(s) as a stuffed animal on the top however, I found this bear that giggles like a child when you hold it's toe. (more child appealing) I was able to position the flags in so that it goes between all the diapers under the bear. To two of the flags, I attached travel sized baby shampoo and baby oil. Look even closer, I placed two small Canadian flags on them with colored ribbon that are Canada's colors. I purposefully posed the bear.

Mom can't be left out, therefore, I got her a Canadain mug with coffee (with a maple leaf attached to it). The coffee is nestled in the mug with a burp pad. Everyone knows mom needs wash cloths... so I rolled two individual wash cloths into a two tootsie roll (course there's a maple leaf in there too)

TA DA " I am from CANADA" diaper cake.
(I've never seen someone cry over a gift before... in her very strong accent she said "My first special Canadian baby.")
Thank you Tammy for sharing your Canadian diaper cake idea!
